33 Powerful Black Lives Matter Murals

Artists have turned boarded-up businesses into powerful Black Lives Matter art.

 

Mural artist Lola Lovenotes writes about mural commemorating Breonna Taylor who “was murdered over 3 months ago by police officers and they still have not been charged,” she said in a message over Instagram. “There have been countless racial injustices against Black women, girls, [transwomen + girls], and yet their names are forgotten. Their murders don’t seem to get the same attention as Black men and boys. When we say Black Lives Matter, we need to make sure Black women are included in our demands for justice too!”

Make Room commissioned 11 artists from across the country to present a one-of-a-kind fiberglass public art project. The 11 fiberglass doors will be showcased in 11 different public and private spaces and high tourist/traffic locations in Washington, D.C. September 13-28. Lola talks with Nancy on what inspired her art for this project, how she's personally been affected by the housing crisis, and the message she hopes to convey through her art.
